Transrectal Ultrasound and Prostate Biopsy

Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) utilizes a finger-like probe which is placed in the rectum in order to image the prostate. A prostate biopsy uses a thin needle through the rectum into the prostate for removal of core biopsies under ultrasonic guidance. TRUS allows for improved sampling of prostate tissue when a prostate biopsy is performed. This routine procedure is performed in our office. The prostate biopsies are examined by a group of highly qualified pathologists at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

We are pleased to offer MRI FUSION biopsies of the prostate to accurately target suspicious zones by linking MRI and ultrasound technology for precise tissue sampling.
