Prostate Seed Implant
This procedure employs the use of radioactive “seeds” to deliver high doses of radiation directly to the tumor. The permanent Palladium 103 seeds are implanted using needles to deliver the seeds into the prostate via a transperineal (the space between the scrotum and anus) route under fluoroscopic and ultrasonic guidance. The procedure is performed by the radiation oncologist and urologist. Prior to the procedure, measurements of the prostate size are used to determine the radiation dose. The procedure is performed as an outpatient.
