GENETIC TESTING FOR PROSTATE CANCER
Men with a family history of prostate cancer (brothers, uncles, fathers, grandfathers, cousins) why not consider genetic testing for a personalized risk profile analysis.
In particular, a hereditary predisposition in the family might include:
- prostate cancer diagnosed at an early age
- metastatic/aggressive prostate cancer
- multiple cancers in one person(such as prostate and pancreatic)
- multiple relatives diagnosed with prostate cancer(especially aggressive cancers) and /or related cancers(including breast, ovarian, pancreatic, etc) on the same side of the family and spanning multiple generations
The Hereditary Prostate Cancer Panel tests for the following genes: ATM, BRACA1, BRACA2, CHEK2-, EPCAM, HOXB13, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, NBN, PMS2, and TP53.
Method:
A single vial of blood is drawn in our office. The specimen is packaged and sent to GENPATH OPKO for analysis.
In 1-2 weeks a report will deliver recommendations for further action or management if necessary.
In some cases, genetic counseling may be indicated.
