A procedure to visualize the lower urinary tract including the urethra and bladder using a fiberoptic flexible or rigid scope with water irrigation to distend the bladder. The procedure is performed using either local, general or regional anesthesia. A video system is used to photograph any remarkable findings.
Lesions in the bladder can be biopsied and fulgurated, stones in the bladder can be crushed and ureteral stents can be inserted or removed via the cystoscope.
